In the previous post I mentioned some of my hardware issues. While I had solved some of the crashes by replacing the processor, it turned out that that was not the only issue plaguing my computer. Even after replacing my processor, my computer still crashed, and analysing the logs and crash dumps suggested the exact same problem (affecting bits 31, 39 and 47), this time affecting my RAM. Note that previously, I was not able to find any evidence of anomalous values in memory (which suggested to me that it was a processor or cache fault), but the new dumps do show the anomalous values saved in RAM.

I have no idea when these issues first appeared, but the problem appeared to be exacerbated by my installation of two additional 4 gibibyte DIMMs (to give a total of 16 gibibytes of RAM for my machine). So I started memory tests, which more often than not returned nothing (possibly due to my tests’ use of cache; in fact it was only in the past week that I found failures in MemTest86+ and Prime95). So I took out and reseated my DIMMs, and tried taking out one DIMM (to leave me with 12 GiB). It turned out that I exacerbated the problems by doing that, with a constant barrage of segfaults and kernel oopses in Linux (I didn’t try Windows, but I knew it would bluescreen if I did). As a matter of fact, this was the only time I observed bit 31 set to zero erroneously. So I swapped the DIMM I took out with the one I thought may be the problem (both of those DIMMs were bought along with the computer in 2015, while the other pair was only bought two months ago, so I believed that they weren’t the problem), and the problems immediately went away. I’ll post an update on the condition of my computer at a later time; meanwhile, I have episode 28 of Innocence Seekers: April Light to work on.

Anyway, aside from trying to fix my computer (and dealing with my current illness), I’ve been working on developing Blylandic. If you followed my development earlier, you may have noticed that I overhauled much of the grammar from what I originally intended to do. Other things I’ve added include an English-inspired vowel shift affecting long vowels (even the fate of /ɛː/, /eː/, /ɔː/ and /oː/ are similar to English, becoming /iː/, /iː/, /ou̯/ and /uː/ respectively; they correspond to English “ea”, “ee”, “oa” and “oo”) and palatalisation of /k/ and /g/. For both nouns and verbs I’ve included the concept of “basic” and “composed” inflections; basic inflections modify the word directly, while composed inflections rely on auxillaries and particles (both of which act as suffixes). I’m nowhere near being able to show how one might form an utterance in Blylandic (I still have syntax to work out), although I know it will be SOV.

On to other things. For this season, the only anime I’m watching is Comic Girls (by the way, it’s currently receiving a German simuldub, which surprised me). I had shown interest in a few other anime, but for reasons ranging from “I don’t have a subscription for X, and I can’t be bothered pirating it” to “it’s a short” to “I haven’t yet watched the first season”, I decided not to watch them. As for manga, well, I haven’t read that much (other than the latest volume of Comic Girls, which introduces Ruki’s younger sister Miki), although my backlog has grown (again). Anyway, my scores for the anime I watched last season are S, A+, A and B+ (I’ll leave it to you to guess which one is which).

Speaking of Comic Girls, the official Twitter account posted some four-panel comic strips by prominent Manga Time Kirara MAX artists. Here they are (titles are mine):

Perverted Ruki, by Harusame (JK Splash!)

Disturbing Kaos’s bathtime, by Utau Aizaki (Why Did I Enter the Art Course!?)

Friends?, by Mao Haruna (Nokemono Shōjo-Dōmei)

High school girls’ dashi?, by Super Masara (Take Me to the Baseball Stadium)

Tokyo’s terrain, by kashmir (Nanaka-san no Inzei Seikatsu Nyūmon)

The anthology comic collection will be released on April 26.

And finally, there was something I wanted to talk about but couldn’t find the opportunity. Last year, on December 11, Kirara Fantasia, a smartphone RPG featuring characters from various Manga Time Kirara manga, was launched. In the beginning, only eight manga were announced to be featured, but as time passed, more were added. A fair proportion of players have been asking why that is the case, and I do not know. I have some theories, but I’d rather keep them to myself. Anyway, it appears that you need to be in Japan in order to actually play the game; from what I’ve heard, they’ve blocked foreign IP addresses due to cheating (it’s easy to blame the Chinese, but it could have been anyone, and I don’t think the West is above cheating).
And one last thing: there is a survey concerning the game, and one of the questions is (very roughly translated) “Which works would you like to feature in Kirara Fantasia?”, listing literally every Manga Time Kirara manga not in the game that has received (or will receive) an anime adaptation bar one (whose eligibility is stymied by the fact that none of its named characters are even the right size, let alone human; eligible characters should, I believe, be human, female and relatively young), as well as an “Other” choice. This is a screenshot of said question, and the choices are:

GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class

Place to Place

Anima Yell!

Anne Happy

Kanamemo

K-On!

Gourmet Girl Graffiti

Is the Order a Rabbit?

Comic Girls

Three Leaves, Three Colors

Castle Town Dandelion

Dōjin Work

Harukana Receive

Minori Scramble!

Wakaba*Girl

Other

You might not have heard of some of these. In particular, Minori Scramble! is quite obscure, having not lasted even a year in Manga Time Kirara Forward and only receiving an OVA released on February 15, 2012 (four years after it finished). On the other hand, someone dug into the game’s data files and found data for Anne Happy and Comic Girls (the latter confirmed on April 20), so that may be a sign.

Anyway, that’ll be it for now. I’ve gone on for way too long here; I intended for this to be shorter, but oh well.

Edit (2018-04-21): Overnight the release date for the Laid-Back Camp-based chapter of Kirara Fantasia was announced (note that this is not part of the main quest, but is a side story), as well as confirmation that Comic Girls will feature.
