Yume ni Aruku – Trivia

This will be another trivia post, but this time I will be talking about Yume ni Aruku, one of my side projects. One thing to note is that while Yume ni Aruku shares many similarities with Innocence Seekers, such as the magic system, there are some differences as well, and the two projects are set in different universes.

Characters

The main characters of Yume ni Aruku are not exactly based on characters either from my other projects or from other works.

Specific information:

  • Shion’s birthday is July 16, which is identical to that of Chelsea of Innocence Seekers: The Black Rose. It also happens to be the birthday of Japanese voice actress Yōko Hikasa.
  • Yae’s birthday (November 1) is the same as that of Rin Hoshizora of Love Live!.
  • Tomoe’s birthday is September 23. This happens to be around the time of the September equinox, which represents the transition from summer to autumn in the Northern Hemisphere.
  • Nanako’s birthday was originally set as November 10, but has since been moved a day to November 11. November 10 is now Shiori’s birthday.
  • Nanako’s birthday is identical to that of Azusa Nakano of K-On!, Taki Kamate of A-Channel, and Japanese voice actress Mikako Komatsu.
  • Chitose’s birthday is August 14.
  • Alisa’s birthday is March 4, which is shared with Hanamaru Kunikida of Love Live! Sunshine!!.
  • Shiori’s birthday is the same as that of Japanese voice actress, singer and stage actress Azusa Tadokoro.
  • Chitose was a late addition to the cast, and did not appear in the first version of the story up to where I stopped.

Setting

The setting of Yume ni Aruku is largely similar to that of Innocence Seekers, however, there are some differences, notably the inclusion of Kariuba in Yume ni Aruku. Unlike in Innocence Seekers, contact between planets in Yume ni Aruku is limited.

Metahistory

I use the term “metahistory” to refer to the history of the development of my projects, and this will be no exception. Yume ni Aruku was first conceived in 2012, with the first chapter finished in January 2013. However, I found it unsuitable for release, as I had introduced many new characters and concepts along the way. Production of new material stalled after that; the last sequential part written was in April 2014. Between then and the commencement of the second version, the only thing I had done was introduce Chitose.

I decided to do a rewrite of the entire story, this time changing it into a chapter-episode format I adopted for the draft story of Innocence Seekers: Akari of the Light. Due to changes I made along the way while writing the first version, the second version will differ in many aspects from the first version.

While Yume ni Aruku was partially inspired by the concept of having characters sent to another world (and be stuck there) for whatever reason, I had decided very early on that the characters will not stay in Kariuba for the entirety of the story. In fact, I decided to return the characters to Earth late in the first chapter (of six).

I had originally planned eight chapters, but I cut it down to six when starting the second version. For the entire series, I expect the number of chapters to be written to be between 22 and 25, which is a lot (in comparison, Innocence Seekers: Akari of the Light will only have four chapters). Each chapter will have somewhere between ten and 15 episodes. Each episode will be from 15 to 18 kilobytes of raw text (about 300-350 lines of no more than 80 characters each).

That should be all for now.

P.S. For May 8 (I won’t say “today” or “tomorrow” due to time zone issues) I wish Chiaki Takahashi, Yukiyo Fujii and Satomi Satō a happy birthday (if you’re wondering, they’re all Japanese voice actresses).

P.P.S. If you haven’t noticed, the birthday messages I post at the end of some of my blog posts, as well as birthday connections are limited to female characters of anime which I would be interested in and Japanese voice actresses. I will not be doing males.

P.P.P.S. The character designs for New Game! have been released. I noticed that Nene (Aoba’s friend) has the same height (144 cm) as Yuno (Hidamari Sketch), Chino (Is the Order a Rabbit?) and Hana (Hanayamata). No wonder she is often assumed to be a lot younger than she actually is; she has the same height as two middle school students and a short high school student, despite being a university student.
