Game Over is a state in the Innocence Seekers video games which is entered when the player has fulfilled a losing condition which prevents any further progress in the game. These conditions include, but are not limited to, having the player's entire party be incapacitated or otherwise unable to battle without manual intervention, failure of a critical quest, or allowing the timer to run all the way down to zero in a critical situation.

Ways to get a Game Over

There are many ways in which one can get a Game Over. One of the most obvious ways is simply to have the entire party be wiped out. Certain storyline-based quests only give the player one chance at succeeding, do not allow further progress in the game until the quest is complete, and do not allow the player to pull out of the quest. If a player fails such a quest, it will result in a Game Over.

What to do when one gets a Game Over

If a player gets a Game Over, he/she has several choices, depending on the cause of the Game Over. If a Game Over is brought about because the party was wiped out, the player has three choices:

  • Retry: Retry the battle, restoring any items which may have been used in the battle and restoring the party's HP, MP and equipment to the state before the battle commenced.
  • Return: Return the party to the the last visited safe area, at the cost of a significant percentage of the party's money.
  • Reload: Open the Load menu to allow the player to reload a previous save.

If a Game Over is brought about as a result of a failed quest, the player has the following choices:

  • Retry: Return the party to the last checkpoint, at no cost.
  • Reset: Return the party to the last visited safe area, at the cost of a significant percentage of the party's money, and reset the quest's objectives, removing or restoring any key items if required to reset the quest.
  • Reload: Open the Load menu to allow the player to reload a previous save.

If a Game Over is brought about as a result of the timer reaching zero, the player has the following choices:

  • Retry: Return the party to the beginning of the timed segment, at no cost. Any key items obtained during the timed sequence are lost, and any key items removed during the timed sequence are restored.
  • Extend: Add at least 15 minutes to the timer, at the cost of a significant percentage of the player's money.
  • Reload: Open the Load menu to allow the player to reload a previous save.
