Unconscious (status)

The Unconscious status effect is a status effect in the Innocence Seekers video games. It indicates that the character affected is incapacitated and can no longer participate in battle. As it is a disabling status effect which requires manual intervention for recovery, if all characters are affected, the party is considered to be wiped out.

Sources

This status effect can be inflicted on a character if his/her HP reaches zero. In addition, some spells and techniques have a property referred to as Instant Death, which, if activated, will always inflict this status effect if it is not resisted.

Recovery

To recover from this status effect, the character affected must be revived; normal healing will not work. A number of spells and techniques have a revival effect when used, restoring a set percentage of the target's HP in removing the status effect. In particular, the Revive spell's only effect is to revive its target and restore 25 per cent of his/her HP. The Rebirth Feather can also be used to revive characters; although it will only recover 12.5 per cent of the character's HP.

Characters who have negative MP can only be revived if the revival restores enough HP to allow MP to increase to zero via HP consumption (see the article on mana starvation for more details). A character with higher than 100 per cent negative MP (relative to their maximum MP) can only be revived using an Elixir (which fully recovers HP and MP) or the Revive EX spell (which will leave the target with one HP and zero MP, contrary to its normal effect).

Prevention

There are two ways in which one can prevent this status effect from being inflicted. One, very obvious way is to ensure every character's HP remains sufficiently high enough such that a single attack does not fell them. The other way is to have Instant Death resistance, which will protect against attacks with the Instant Death effect.
