Mirai Aooka (青岡 未来) is a character who appears in Innocence Seekers: The Black Rose. She is first mentioned in Innocence Seekers: The Silver Princess, but does not make her first appearance until Innocence Seekers: Dimensional Crossing. Mirai becomes an important character in Innocence Seekers: Akari of the Light, becoming an integral member of Akari's group, and is a main character of Innocence Seekers: Mimori Flower Club.

Mirai is a rather shy girl, who has difficulty even speaking to others on her own volition. Her inability to start conversations brought her into conflict with Mizuki, however, Inori knew that since Mirai is shy, she should not be forced to speak. Even though Mirai is shy, she will open up to others if they start speaking to her gently.

As a mage, Mirai is an earth and wood elemental magic user whose primary weapon is a staff which can morph into a hammer. While she prefers to stay back and cast long range spells and summon creatures to help her and her allies, she is capable of fighting in close quarters, using her weapon to deliver slow yet powerful blows. Her Inherent Ability is Overwhelming Blow (圧倒的な殴打, attōteki na ōda), which gives all of her attacks a miniscule chance of dealing incredible damage, enough to incapacitate even a powerful demon. However, the ability does not work against other mages or magical girls, making it primarily useful in defeating witches, demons or Donsilans.

Backstory

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

Mirai had spent most of her childhood with only a little knowledge of magic. This was because her mother, Mikako, wanted Mirai to live a normal life, away from the dangers of being a magical girl. This is shown in a number of scenes in Innocence Seekers: The Dark Angel Part 3 and Innocence Seekers: Dimensional Crossing, where Mikako bluntly told the characters visiting to stay away from Mirai.

Despite this, it was all but inevitable that Mirai would be drawn into the many conflicts affecting the galaxy. Mirai had not made any friends at Mimori Elementary School for a long time, until a fight with Mizuki resulted in Inori intervening and befriending Mirai. Soon, the members of the Mimori Flower Club, in particular, Sakura, became friends with Mirai. All of these girls were themselves magical girls, and Mikako had no choice but to invite them for the purpose of telling them never to tell Mirai about magic. Eventually, it would be Mikako's old friend Akane who would draw Mirai into the world of magic and straight into the events of Innocence Seekers: Akari of the Light.
