Innocence Seekers: The Black Rose – Trivia (Part 2)

A while ago, I posted some of the little things about Innocence Seekers: The Black Rose. I will continue posting these things in this new post.

Characters (specific)
Note: More birthday connections will come in a later post.

  • Erika’s birthday (May 1) is identical to that of Yui Ichii of Yuyushiki and Fū Inubōzaki of Yuki Yuna Is a Hero.
  • Himawari (Erika’s sister) has the same birthday (April 17) as that of Rei Hino/Sailor Mars of Sailor Moon.
  • Natsumi shares the same birthday (June 23) with Japanese voice actress Ayana Taketatsu.
  • Fuyuka’s birthday is October 15.
  • Haruka’s birthday is August 26, which is identical to that of Japanese voice actress Saeko Chiba.
  • Akimi’s birthday is September 2.
  • Aika and Nozomi share the same birthday (June 28). In addition, this is also the birthday of Japanese voice actress Suzuko Mimori.
  • There are at least three characters who have some form of “lily” in their names. They include Lily (of course), her daughter Natasha (whose middle name is Lily), and Yuri (Japanese for “lily”). Befitting their names, the flowers associated with them are members of the genus Lilium.
  • Akari, Michiru, Yayoi and Hiyori form a four-temperament ensemble. Akari is choleric, Michiru is phlegmatic, Yayoi is sanguine, and Hiyori is melancholic.
  • Mirai, Sakura, Mizuki and Inori also form a four-temperament ensemble. In this case, Mirai is phlegmatic, Sakura is sanguine, Mizuki is choleric, and Inori is melancholic.
  • The magical girls of the Mimori Flower Club are another four-temperament ensemble. Sumire is melancholic, Sakura is sanguine, Himawari is choleric, and Yuri is phlegmatic.

Setting

  • Of the four “main” planets, Elrodom is rarely visited in Innocence Seekers: The Black Rose.
  • Technology levels will differ between planets. For example, the technology on Fuenod is more advanced than that of Earth, to the point where Likkra and Namari can build interstellar spaceships by 2009.
  • The Portal Monoliths, used in earlier entries to travel between planets, are dangerous and may spawn monsters.
  • Each planet has over 100 independent states; however, only a few of these states will be visited or mentioned in each entry.

Metahistory
This is the history of the development of Innocence Seekers: The Black Rose.

  • The original story, conceived in 2008, was originally a school project.
  • I had another project, The Eternal Diary, developed concurrently with Innocence Seekers. Eventually, the former was abandoned, and aspects and characters were transferred to the latter.
  • In the original story, the demon king Blezno was supposed to be the antagonist. He has since been demoted to being an arc villain for the first chapter of Innocence Seekers: The Dark Angel Part 3.
  • Gakran was originally conceived to be the antagonist of Innocence Seekers: Dimensional Crossing. While he retains this role today, his role has been expanded.
  • Natasha was originally designed to be a shrinking violet. Her current characterisation is as a girl who is quiet but firm. Her best friend in the original story was Madeline, but it has since been changed to be Chelsea.
  • Amelia and Madeline were not princesses in the original story.
  • The original Innocence Seekers: Dimensional Crossing had Aika and Nozomi be alternate universe versions of each other. Remnants of this original connection can be found in their names (their family names have the same first character) and the fact that they have the same birthday.
  • The original story was meant to take place entirely on Ocypsa.
  • Chelsea originally did not have a sister.
  • In the original Innocence Seekers: Akari of the Light, there was a segment where Hiyori was eaten by a witch, which was meant to demonstrate the ability of a magical girl to recover from even that over time. I have since removed that bit.
  • The concept of a “magical girl” different from ordinary mages did not exist in the original story.
  • The title of the entire project, Innocence Seekers, was partially inspired by an anime/manga series which I no longer watch/read. I do not plan to change the title (as I registered innocenceseekers.net and do not plan to transfer domains). The name itself was conceived as a working title in 2009 or 2010.
  • The idea of witches having their own pocket dimension comes straight from the “barriers” of witches in Puella Magi Madoka Magica. In this case, I have extended this capability to the magical girls. I did this as it is a convenient way of justifying random dungeons in my games.
  • The Cave of Illusions, a mysterious phenomenon (basically, a random dungeon) in the exceptionally cold northern reaches of Tyrag, the northernmost nation on Ocypsa, was conceived as the main setting for a standalone roguelike project. I still plan to make a game based on this.

P.S. Happy birthday to Naru Sekiya of Hanayamata!
