Innocence Seekers: Akari of the Light – Families

In this blog post, I will mention the families of the playable characters of Innocence Seekers: Akari of the Light. It is important to keep in mind that these girls aren’t fighting alone; they have the support of everyone close to them (I’m not making a grimdark story, you know). As such, I was thinking of mentioning some of the people related to the girls, and how they support or motivate the girls throughout their quest.

Two things to note before you proceed. There will be some details, such as the names of certain characters, or their kanji representations (if applicable), which I have yet to decide. The second thing to note is that there will be spoilers. I haven’t implemented spoiler tags on this blog yet, so you’ll have to make do with this warning.

First up, the birthday girl, Akari (if she were real, she’d be 17 now). Akari is an only child, the sole daughter of Akane Kuritani (栗谷 あかね). I haven’t decided on her father’s name (or even if he will appear in the story), but I can tell you that her father adopted her mother’s surname (this is actually the norm in Namari). Akari does not have any first cousins, as both her parents were only children as well, but she does have one second cousin in Benio Shinokura (篠倉 紅緒), who is the daughter of one of Akane’s first cousins.
In the story, Akane is one of the adults who help the girls during their quest. She is a former member of the Zodiac Warriors, and one of the few characters who possess an Innocence Shard (I’ll explain the significance of this later). Despite not being active for years, she is still a very powerful mage.

Next is Michiru. Her parents died sometime before the beginning of the story, and she and her older sister currently live by themselves. Her sister, Misato Kurosawa (黒沢 美里), like Michiru, is a magical girl. However, after an incident in 2004, she has all but given up on joining the Zodiac Warriors, and before the beginning of the story, she has been trying to live a normal life.
In the story, Misato is one of the first magical girls to help the protagonists in their quest. She initially did this out of concern for Michiru’s welfare, but after realising the gravity of the situation in the galaxy, she gave her full support to the effort to defeat Gakran.

Yayoi is the third of five sisters. Her older sisters are Mutsuki (宮奈 睦月) and Kisaragi (宮奈 如月) and her younger sisters are Uzuki (宮奈 卯月) and Satsuki (宮奈 皐月). Her parents died in mysterious circumstances soon after Satsuki was born (only around a month before the start of the story).
In the story, Mutsuki returns from Tokyo to directly help the girls, while Kisaragi is in charge of defending Tokyo from witch attacks. Yayoi’s concern for her younger sisters also motivates her during the girls’ quest.

Hiyori is an only child, the sole daughter of Amane Kigawa (黄川 雨音). Amane plays a similar role in the story to that of Akane.

I’ll mention more in a later post. To finish, I’ll give this quote from Akari:
“From the darkness, miracles can arise. When a miracle arises, the darkness shall become light. And I will make this miracle arise!”
「暗闇からは、奇跡が起これる。奇跡の起こる頃は、暗闇が光になる。そして私は、この奇跡を起こすよ!」

Yes, part of this quote is the quote I’ve given for the Innocence Seekers: Akari of the Light wiki article, albeit translated into Latin. The full quote is below:
“Ex tenebris, miracula enasci possunt. Quando miraculum enascetur, tenebrae lux fient. Et ego hoc miraculum enasci faciam!”

P.S. It’s also Kaori Ishihara’s birthday today. I actually chose Akari’s birthday to coincide with her birthday.
